Practice Highlights... - As part of an alliance of Denver lawyers, Jerry McDermott played a major role in multi-state litigation in Colorado, Wyoming, Montana, Washington, Oregon, North Dakota and Iowa over the misconduct of a midwest investment brokerage firm in the marketing and monitoring of annuities which culminated in a settlement in excess of $30 million after successful trials in Colorado, Washington and Iowa.
- Willam J. Hansen has successfully prosecuted cases involving Aim N Flame® utility lighters distributed by Scripto-Tokai Corporation. The non-child-resistant "Aim-N-Flame" lighters caused catistrophic burn injuries injury to small children. The firm also participated in the Consumer Product Safety Commission's ultimate rule-making which now requires child-resistance of lighters such as the "Aim-N-Flame". An example is Bartholic v. Scripto-Tokai Corp, 140 F. Supp. 2d 1098 (D. Colo. 2000).

A Wheeling, West Virginia man and his family represented by Jerry McDermott and George McLaughlin received a jury verdict of $4.75 million as a result of neurosurgical malpractice. It was the first medical malpractice verdict in favor of a plaintiff in that county in almost five years. -

Jerry McDermott and Bill Hansen were primary counsel in an aviation case in which seven people were killed in the crash of a corporate jet on approach to the airport in Billings, Montana due to pilot error in flying into the wake turbulence of a Boeing 757 preceding it. -
Jerry McDermott and Bill Hansen represented approximately 250 doctors in state and federal lawsuits claiming bad faith, breach of contract and misrepresentation in a medical malpractice insurer's misconduct in leaving the state during the so-called malpractice crisis of 1986. Extremely novel issues of law were resolved in landmark appellate rulings in Ballow v. Phico Ins. Co., 841 P.2d 344 (Colo. App. 1992), reversed, 875 P.2d 1354 (Colo. 1993), remanded 878 P.2d 672 (Colo. 1994). -
