Electric Blanket Fires

The United States Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) 1996 Residential Fire Loss Estimates found that electric blankets caused 400 residential fires, resulting in $6.6 million in property damage, 30 injuries, and 10 deaths.  In spite of modifications to these products, and the inclusion of a safety circuit, fires and burns caused by overheating of these products continue to occur.

George McLaughlin has represented victims of electric blanket fires in twenty five states, and in more than fifty cases, over the past decade.  While most all settlements of these cases are confidential at the insistence of the manufacturer, the largest jury verdict in an electric blanket fire case occurred in 1999, awarding the victims more than $6 million.
